Continued from previous posting

I have been accused of being a Bushy. I freely admit that I was pro Bush at one time and have downgraded that to neutral. He has made three egregious errors that I can think of. 1) Failure to enforce border security 2) Failure to try and control federal spending 3) The dismissal of the defeated Iraq army { We could have had a huge, disaplined force to help keep order }. Nobody seems to realize this latter failure
except for your obedient servant.
Aside from the above, I think poor old Bush deserves about a B. Now, please let me put this subject to bed.

A few more comments on presidential nominees : McCain, way too old. Count him out. John Edwards, $400 haircuts should put him out of the running. It must be awful to have so much money that you loose all perspective of the value of things.
One cannot help but admire the barber with the neerve to charge this much and still find suckers who will pay it.

Probably more on the political subject anon

George Bush's term isn't quite over yet, so we shouldn't be hasty in doling out grades. He might surprise us yet!
As a hairdresser, I agree that a $400 haircut is highway robbery, and it bodes poorly for Edwards, who unlike McCain, is too young to be president.
Rumor has it that Al Gore is up for receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, and that he is waiting for that to pass before announcing that he, too, will become a presidential candidate. Just what we need, eh?

Dear Rummy,

I respect your wish to put the Bush administration to bed, however before you tuck it in I would like to agree wholeheartedly with the third flagrant error you mention. And I must say that I marvel that in his one full term and some you find only three such errors. With that I desist. I wonder if the American taxpayer will. (several generations there of)

Edwards can pay $400 for haircuts thanks to his very lucrative practice as an ambulance chaser. That bother’s me a damned site more than the trim. And I love Sonya’s spirit and acumen. She nailed Juliani right on. And Obama’s well worth considering but I still like Richardson.

McCain I discounted for various reasons although age wasn’t one of them. He’s but two years older than Regan when he won in 1980.

My dear Rummy, I’d never read a blog before yours so this is a wonderful new experience! Thus I do not know the “rules of engagement.” Is yours in particular a medium for rumination or do you encourage discussion and debate? There was a time when you thrived on the later…

Abrazos,

El Ruco

ok... I know I will be flamed for this, however...
For much of my younger life I voted predominantly for the Republican candidate. Mind you, it had nothing to do with this ugly Christian/Conservative coalition that has so efficiently used polarizing issues to divide this country and carve out a weak majority. It had to do with my thinking that government should be small, efficient, frugal, limited, and subservient to its people, once a hallmark of the Republicans.

Today, I certainly do not hold the democrats in any false esteem. They can be as corrupt, agenda-ridden, and misguided as the republicans. Yet, I think republicans have had a nice nearly 8 year ride, running the lion-share of government. And you know what? For all the power they commanded, I feel less wealthy, less safe, and less hopeful today than I did at the end of Clinton's terms.
The world never has "loved" the US, but seldom has the majority of this world been as united in anti-american sentiment as it is now. Which astounds me when I think of the outpouring of compassion and the united world that immediately followed 9/11.
Not since Vietnam have we been embroiled in a more pointless war. Naysayers not-withstanding, Saddam Hussein was a known and easily manipulated character. We dethroned him and unleashed hundreds of radical splinter groups, and gave the terrorists we were presumably fighting just what they wanted.
I heard some commentator the other day lamenting how the media hypes the number of troops killed in Iraq, and how that was paltry compared to the number of people killed in car accidents. The comparison was meant to say that we would never ban cars, they are too necessary for us to ban them for the harm they cause - and therefore the same might be said of the lives lost in Iraq. This commantary was so short-sighted I could have screamed. Not only are we paying through the nose for this war today, we will be paying for this war for a long time in coming. Keep in mind that causalties are not just the dead, the living wounded. Our repuation, integrity and good will are also casualties of this war.
I guess if the only error I had seen this president make was in this war, I would be more inclined to forgive a grievous lapse in judgement. But my list is long, far outstripping the paltry "3" my dear old dad has found.

On a side note - Holly read much of this and asked to say "me too" to my comments.

I will add my 2 likely unwanted cents about the other candidates at some other time...
