Jan came home from Walmart a few days ago with a new pair of scissors. Why she did this I cannot imagine since we have lots of them already, those excellent ones with the orange handles that most everyone has. Why should I worry?
This pair was entirely of black plastic with thin strips of sharpened steel attached to the cutting edge. It cuts more easily than the orange type and seems superior to them in every way.
Why worry ? It was made in China and cost $1.00 ( one dollar !). Goodbye US scissor industry. It goes the way of electronics, hardware, toys, medical supplies, fish, etc. etc.
The good news: We still make the best hamburgers.

Ah yes, the supremacy of China in the race to undersell all other nations...The recent recall of so many products laden with lead has been refreshing, though.
I tend to occupy the "you get what you pay for" camp. I wonder if the scissors will still be so sharp in a few months.
I'm very sorry to hear of your flip-floppery on the smoking ban in the bar. I love going home from bars with fresh smelling clothes!
hallo tom, I am in yorkshire england, two minutes round the corner from where charlotte emily anne and branwell bronte were born....I can remember being at weymouth with forty two of my relatives, but we have all downsized loads since then, I am a greatgrandmother myself...my blog is www.gettingoffit.blogspot.com
have a good day, and you need loads of scissors nowadays, believe me
What bothers me most is that she went to WalMart (aka ChinaMart). I am with Frances on this -- you do get what you pay for and we have become a decidedly disposable society -- every item that is bought at WalMart is cheap and disposable. It makes more sense to pay a decent price for a decent product and buy it once, rather than re-buy every so often. Case in point are these cheap single use Chinese umbrellas that tear up after the first use -- out garbage dumps are full of them!
Sam Walton would turn in his grave if he could see what Walmart has turned into (and what it has done to the country!)
Yep, got a pair just like the one's you are describing. Never got a blister from a pair of scissors before, but these were, to date, the most inconvenient and uncomfortable shape for my hand.
