IF I WERE A DICTATOR

A recurring dream of mine has me in charge of the US government. I am in complete control and am able to solve almost all the problems that plague our wonderful country. There are 5 problems that seem to require my immediate attention.

1) Immigration : Build a great double wall across the borders and put plenty of guards along it. National guard and army could be employed. No more Mr. nice guy. Get tough on the miscreants that are caught.
Those illegal immigrants already here would be required to register and be issued an identification, Without this documents they would not be able to work or rent dwellings or receive any benefits. If caught, the non registered ones would be subject to deportation at once.
Those who register would be allowed two years to stay and then be required to return to their country of origin for at least one year and be allowed back in for a two year period upon presentation of the registry document.. Children born of illegals would no have US citizenship.
Problem solved. QED

I will discuss spending control in the next IF I WERE A DICTATOR blog.

I think I am glad you are not THE dictator in our country. Although I agree illegal immigration is a huge problem - we would have an even bigger one if they were not here. Who would work on all our roads? The Katy Freeway would NEVER be done! As long as we have jobs - they will come. If you don't want them here - punish the people who are hiring them. I also think building a fence is of negligible use - again, if they want in and we have jobs - they will come no matter how high the fence.

I'm in complete agreement with Amy on this one.

Glad to see you have stepped away from the Boggle.

I am in complete disagreement with Amy and Holly on this one. Penalizing businesses and raising the costs of doing business in this country are terrible ideas! We will run the rest of what remains out of the country... Businesses should not be penalized cause the government cannot do its job. An example of this very nightmare is that we are collection agents for every government entity that exists. It is expensive and time-consuming to administer, collect, and respond to each piece of mail the government sends out. Also, the government makes the rules, and guess what, they totally favor the government. An example of a bad rule is that if an employer does not respond to a request for garnishing wages, then the employer is liable for the garnishment. What kind of BS is that! I paid MY taxes, and now I might have to pay someone else's!!!

So, I am closer to dad on this one, even though I am not in total agreement.

What have we accomplished by sending them back for a year and then letting them back in? Why the extra headache? I suggest that after their two year period is up, they may apply for citizenship. Employers would take money out of their paychecks for the next year to pay the fees required to become citizens. After this phase, they will begin to pay SS like the rest of us, and file tax returns. Penalties for failure to register and for hiring without this document should be enforced. Taller walls can be scaled with taller ladders.
