NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS ET AL

As I have in the past , there are certain resolutions which I renew each year.I hereby solemnly swear to eat no egg plants or Brussels sprouts, two of the most disgusting so called foods often consumed by people of omnivorous taste. This year I have added a third item, cous-cous. I have never tasted a cous-cous nor have I ever seen one. I do not intend ever to do so. The ridiculous name is a complete turn-off and on this basis they make the list of new years resolution no-nos.

On a different subject, I understand that it is customary to list those things for which we are thankful during the now ending 2011. Mainly I give thanks for my extended family of smart ,funny ,loving people who surround me and Jan during holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. I doubt if there is another family anywhere with everyone liking one another. I sit back in wonder as they engage in Boggle, poker, pimg pong, and other games and pass times, filled with fun and laughter. For me these are the best of times.

I agree with you about Brussels sprouts and eggplant. It is unfortunate that my immediate family loves them - Adam has adored the sprouts since he was 4 years old, although I think they are not quite as special to him as they once were, and Julia thinks eggplant is the cat's pajamas. So I'm thinking of making her a pair of pajamas from discarded eggplants for her upcoming birthday.

I, too, found this Christmas gathering a hit. However, it took a couple of nights for me to quit dreaming about Boggle. Jan seemed a little tense but I would feel the same with 18 invaders in my home. I hope your next visit to your doctor allows you to remove that contraption on your leg. I think Jan worries about you. Understandable. I've worried about you ever since we met.

I've nearly finished your History of Ruminations. It is a wonderful read. What a great gift for those of us who eschewed your blog unwittingly because we were too busy to pay attention to it. We must seem like a bunch of Neanderthals. My New Year's resolution is to join your viewership and enter the Blogospheric fray from time to time. I usually don't make resolutions and, when I do, I take them seriously. I typically campaign for more sleep.

Signing off. B

I personally will give up raw eggs and snails for the new year. I know the sacrifice is big, but hell, you only get to start each year once.
On a different note, it was a great Christmas and I want to give thanks to all the cooks, especially Michelle, for making our holiday the most delicious one ever!

Granddad, while I will never understand your dislike of eggplants and brussels sprouts- 2 finer veggies I have never met-- I cannot agree more thoroughly that we have one heck of great family.

I feel so sorry for people who drag themselves to their family holiday gatherings with dread. I look forward to ours all year long.

We are very fortunate people.
