THINGS I DON'T BELIEVE

1) One must drink 8 glasses of water a day.
Why would one need or want 1 gallon of water per day ? I lived the first 80 years without drinking any water at all. My kidneys and bladder tell me one or two glasses should suffice.
2) 5,000,000 children in the US go to bed hungry every night.
I have never heard of anything more ridiculous. Who do you suppose counted those hungry children ? Where are the parents ? A box of macaroni and cheese costs about one buck. Add water or milk and, if possible, a bit of butter and it will serve 4. Maybe not the worlds best diet but it will fill an empty stomach. I suspect the nanny state is behind this absurdity.
3) The spotted owl is an endangered specie.
The timber industry in the Pacific NW was almost destroyed by imposed restriction on their operations. It happens that the spotted owl , often under a different name, lives in great profusion up and down the Pacific coast.
The snail darter is supposed to be threatened also. Why would anyone care ?
4)The average salary of CEO's of publicly traded companies is $9,300,000. 244 times the average pay.
Certainly, the paychecks of huge companies might be that large and perhaps more. There are thousands of small cap.corporations with more modest salaries. My guess, maybe 2,000,000
as an average.

This only scratches the surface of those things I don't believe. We may continue with this theme at a later date.

On CEO pay.... check the following link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:CEO_pay_v._average_slub.png

Ratio of Average CEO/Worker pay was around 25 in the 1960s. Today, that is somewhere around 200-300 times. I suspect the sources you question for this are probably correct, despite your lack of credulity.

I think you may have to travel to see the poverty and hunger - in the U.S. you are correct but there are billions of people without electricity or water in the world. We are a VERY rich nation.

Dad - I agree on some points. On CEO pay - there are a few CEOs of large companies that are paid outrageous sums of money - they are not worth it! For small mom and pops, the ratio of CEO/worker pay is closer to 15. Unfortunately, mom and pops are giving way to mega-corporations that under-pay workers and overpay CEOs. We, the American consumer, are partly to blame. The rest of the blame lies with the government that gives blatant favoritism to those that can buy them off. Not sure what to do about this as a nation, but I for one tend to shop local, bank local, and entertain local.

As for starving children, there probably are that many, or more. They are starving because their parents are druggies or alcoholics and they sell their food stamps for drug money. The government is ham-strung to fix this since there are children involved. The problem here is the system, it should be fixed to prevent this abuse.

Here, here, Nancy. I love it when you cut straight to the heart of the matter.
