BEGINNING TO MOVE

It will probably be 3/4 weeks before we actually move to our new home. The logistics are daunting. However, the first baby steps are being taken. It is surprising how much junk one can accumulate over 35 years. Piles of cassettes (No one has the equipment to play these anymore ).
Books , books, and more books we no longer want (Any volunteers to take 28 volumes of encyclopedias circa 1962 ). Piles of phonograph records ( What is a phonograph ? some of the younger generation might ask ), many liqueur bottles ( We never touch the stuff ) , an assortment of board games , not played in many years nor will be played by us ever again, an excess of water and wine glasses. The list goes on and on.
All that is the easy stuff. Old furniture that won't fit in the new digs becomes a problem. We have a huge excess of pictures and lamps. Just thinking of all this is giving me a head ache and an upset stomach.
I wonder how one moves one's computer, telephone and TV. Maybe comcast will take care of that. Ouch ! I better stop here. My stomach just started feeling funny.

I wish I could be there to help. I find it very satisfying to get rid of material possessions I don't need or want anymore. When we moved from Delaware, we sold about one third of everything we owned and never missed a single item. Baby steps… That's what I recommend. Tackle one little item at a time and don't think about the big picture.

Moving, even across the street, forces you to come to terms with your possessions. I'm eager to come help.

And it' so crazy that we already had our last Christmas and Thanksgiving in the old house.

Sigh.
