ALL ABOUT FLIES
I feel certain that you are all interested in flies which I mentioned briefly in a previous blog. I made them sound better than they actually are with their great eyesight and lightening like reflexes. Each eye has about 4000 lenses and they pretty much see about 360 degrees at all times.
It is hard to believe that there are over 30,000 species of flies. The most common one is the ordinary house fly, the one that plagues us all summer long. We kill them if we can but they keep coming. The female, so we are told lays thousands of eggs in her brief two week life span. Her little wings beat at about 200 times per second. She, and her male counterpart defecate about every five minutes. They like to eat mostly disgusting things and then land on us or our food with their disgusting, sticky little feet. Thus they are great carriers of infections and and illnesses.
For the determined fly killer, it is important to know that they take off backwards. Knowing this,we should strike from the rear, using a fly swatter. Newspapers and such are much less effective. We have on order an electronic swatter which electrocutes all types of flying bugs on contact. I can hardly wait to try it out.
P. S. Our fly swatter just arrived. We have loaded it with 2 AAA batteries. Alas, the fly season is over and suddenly, they are gone.

Great post and I learned quite a bit about flies! Thanks for posting.
I'm astonished at how amazing flies are. Who knew? Those lenses on their eyes must be microscopic...
And of course, as soon as you get your swatter in order the flies vanish.
If you had the right dog or cat, you wouldn't even need a swatter.
Great post, Granddad!
MOOOOOOOOOOOOORE BLOGS!!!!!
That is a demand, not a request.
Love you.
